Mariska’s Designs amazes at ‘Strut for a Cause’ in St. Lucia

Mariska’s Designs by Sonia Noel received accolades at the annual charity fashion show ‘Strut for a Cause’ held at Sandal Grande, St. Lucia, on November 24. The trendy collections created quite a stir on the runway.
In an interview with Guyana Times Sunday Magazine, the designer said ‘Strut for a Cause’ represented ‘Faces of Cancer’ this year, and she was very privileged to have been part of such a worthy cause.
At the event, Mariska’s Designs was worn by Emma Hippolyte, a minister of commerce, business development, investment and consumer affairs, as well as the patron Alvina Reynolds who made guest appearances on the runway to endorse the project. Prominent doctors, lawyers and cancer survivors certainly were fascinated with donning the designs of Sonia Noel, with many of them investing in her unique designer wear.
“Giving back is important to me, and this is the third time I am participating in this charity show. It was a great feeling seeing cancer survivors so optimistic about life. Also, the support the event received was amazing,” the designer mentioned.
Noel stated she will continue to collaborate with various local and international charitable organisations aimed at making a difference through fashion.
In recognition of her significant contributions to the fashion industry in Guyana, the veteran designer was awarded the President’s Award “For Continuous Expansion and Market Penetration for Guyanese Fashion Design,” this at the Guyana Manufacturers and Services Association’s Annual Awards Dinner at the Pegasus Hotel held November 30.
